Why doesn BitFolk offer Ubuntu Jaunty (9.04) or Karmic (9.10) VPSes?
Unfortunately Ubuntu made a packaging decision that meant that the native virtualisation kernel supplied by them for use with Jaunty and beyond will not boot on a host running Debian stable (Lenny). In order to support virtual machines using these kernels, BitFolk would have to run its own host machines on a testing version of Debian or some other distribution, which we are not willing to do. We could roll our own kernel for customers to use regardless of their distribution, but we believe strongly in the use of kernels supplied by your own chosen vendor. BitFolk customers are empowered to use their own kernels, so if you desire then there is no problem using Jaunty or Karmic with a kernel you would supply and maintain. The VPS can be initially set up to use the latest Debian stable Xen kernel which is perfectly functional, and you can take it from there. Those choosing an Ubuntu-based VPS should be aware that vendor support for security updates on Ubuntu Intrepid (8.10) runs out in Ap
