The version of DirectShow that is available for Windows 2000 does not offer the performance or frame accuracy required for a power digital video application like Avid Xpress DV. Similarly, Avid Xpress DV v3.5 requires the more reliable FireWire drivers of Mac OS X. In addition, the multi-tasking capabilities of Mac OS X are required to support the number and performance of software real-time effects in Avid Xpress DV. Avid Xpress DV v3.5 is optimized for Apple’s powerful G4 Velocity Engine, and therefore cannot be used on any G3 Macintosh system.
