Why doesnt australia have propaganda posters anymore?
They still make a fair few recruiting posters – I recall my high school career counsellor’s office had a fair few of them up, plus an ADFA one outside. These days, other advertising mediums are more effective. Who’s going to bother reading a poster when a TV ad with sound and moving visuals or an online ad with interactivity is more engrossing, not to mention capable of reaching more people? It’s not like wartime, when people would see posters encouraging them to join the Army to “Punish the Hun” or “Fight back the Japs” or whatever. We have no real need for masses of people signing up to serve a single term for a particular conflict – we’re after a small force of professionals, ideally career-minded types. There’s only so much a poster can convey.
