Sony and Nintendo wouldn’t want Amazon selling goods meant for the US market to people in other countries especially when Sony was having part supply issues. Another reason is that certain products are actually only meant for certain countries do to marketing. Model names often vary from country to country and some models have different functions based on what companies think is important in a certain market. For example, my roommate in college picked up a Canon camera in Japan that was a model not for sale in the US even though it closely resemble the Canon Rebel EOS. As for your specific problem, my guess is that Amazon is a much larger company than pixmania or play.com so they assume they will have to comply.
