Why does West Sussex County Council do Job Evaluation?
West Sussex County Council believes in promoting a fair and equitable pay system to attract and retain talented people to achieve our vision of being an employer of choice for all sections of the community. This means we support the principle that all staff including male and female staff, those from all racial groups, those with and without disabilities regardless of age, sexual orientation, religion or belief should receive equal pay for the same or broadly similar work, for work rated as equivalent and for work of equal value. West Sussex County Council introduced the Job Evaluation process to ensure that we meet the legal requirements for equal pay. If a school disregarded job evaluation in assigning a grade to a post, then the cost of any legal issues/processes that arise (either from within the school or elsewhere within the County) as a result of that decision would fall directly to the school, including any compensation costs.
