Why does Waking Girl give out scholarships?
My dream is to change our educational system. This scholarship is one small part in that dream. I want to reward people who are stepping out of the traditional box, and creating their own success. Entrepreneurs strengthen our economy, solve problems in the community, and make for excellent members of a family–we need more of them. The scholarship was termed the “anti-scholarship” because you did not need to attend a college in order to qualify. In fact, I was looking for people who were not going to a waste-of-time 4-year liberal arts college. Ok, no offense to college-lovers, but I have to come out with these sorts of bold statements, in order to 1) wake people up, 2) give the anti-college people some airtime, and 3) make sure my freedom-of-speech rights are still in tact. … is it safe?
