Why does vanilla extract contain sweeteners?
Sweeteners enhance the vanilla flavor and aroma. The most common sweeteners added to vanilla extract are sugar or corn syrup. The sweetener interacts with flavor compounds in vanilla and makes them more pronounced. Sweeteners also help keep the extract mixed so that sediments do not appear during the products long shelf life. Vanilla Extract is made with sugar. The amount added to our vanilla is extremely small and does not affect the sweetness of the final product.
