Why does Utah want Brian Johnson to fail?
What’s a guy gotta do to get some credit in this town? How is it that we watched a savvy 18-year-old finish third in the nation in total yardage during his first season under center, yet so many Ute fans are already calling for Brett Ratliff-or for that matter, anyone other than Brian Johnson-to win the starting quarterback job next season? Realistically, how much more could Johnson have accomplished? And why is Ratliff now Superman after one good game against a secondary that couldn’t cover a troop of Girl Scouts? What gives? It’s easy to see where I might be going with this: If Stephen A. Smith, Scoop Jackson or the Reverend Jesse Jackson caught wind of the Ratliff mania sweeping Salt Lake City, they would surely point to race as the cause of this injustice. And with good reason. Salt Lake City has fewer African Americans than Congress.
