Why does the x-ray technician leave the room?
As weve already mentioned, the radiation exposure of your x-rays is very low. In fact, the amount of radiation youll receive in a standard dental x-ray series equals roughly what you receive from a day and a half of just living on earth! While governmental safety agencies agree that this is an insignificant amount of radiation and poses no personal safety risks, just think how that would add up if you were to be exposed dozens of times a day, five days a week, 12 months a year, throughout an entire working lifetime! You get the idea. Thats why California law requires, for the safety of x-ray technicians, that the equipment cannot be operated unless the technician is physically outside the exposure area.
