Why does the VMP place so much emphasis on execution?
As illustrated in Figure 2, the most successful companies (Champions) excel both in understanding how they can create the most value and in turning that understanding into reality (execution). Visionary firms that cant execute (Dreamers) squander their potential, and disciplined organizations that dont understand the fundamental value-creation dynamics that are driving and reshaping their industries (Myopics) find it very difficult to sustain growth or attractive margins. (Note that the learning and adaptation elements of the SELA Cycle help companies to move upward and to the right on this Value-Focus/Discipline map, continuously improving their strategies and execution efforts.
