Why does the video look squished when certain Video CDs are played back on my computer?

The most likely cause is that you’re viewing a Video CD which was optimized for playback to a television. If the Video CD was optimized for playback to a TV, then it was encoded using rectangular pixels. If you view this Video CD on your computer, the rectangular pixels will be displayed in the square pixel format. This will cause a horizontal distortion and account for the “squished” look. This is the main reason we offer two types of Video CD encoding options. The option choice should be made with respect to the intended playback platform (either playback using a DVD player hooked to a TV, or playback to a monitor hooked to a computer).
