Why does the [URE3] phenotype go away after several generations?

0

The [URE3] phenotype will go away after several generations IF there is no ure2p around (delete the ure2 gene). Existing prions will be diluted out by mitotic divisions and degraded by cellular proteases. Since no new prions can form without ure2p around, the prion state [URE3] will be cured. The phenotype will not go away as long as ure2 gene is present.
