Why does the UK sell arms to Israel and Lebanon?
We are of the view that it is unlikely that the current situation in the region would be improved by the UK imposing an arms embargo on Israel or Lebanon. We are keeping a careful eye on the situation and continue to assess all export licence applications rigorously, on a case by case basis, against our Consolidated European Union (EU) and National Arms Export Licensing Criteria, taking full account of the prevailing circumstances at the time of application and other Government policies. The robust and transparent UK licensing regime, in its current form, is the best way to control the UK’s strategic exports to all countries.
