Why does the Town apply oil and stone chips on some roads in the summer?
This is the most cost effective way to maintain the roads in Town. The Town attempts to seal 10 miles of road per year, thereby sealing all roads on an 8 year cycle. Before the roads are chip sealed, ruts and depressions are filled with hot mix asphalt. The loose stone may be inconvienient for residents and drivers until it is set in the oil mix or is removed by the Town. However this method is more economical than a hot mix asphalt overlay of the entire surface.
