Why does the TaskStream Messenger icon flash (blink) all the time?

The section of the menu bar with the TaskStream Messenger icon is programmed to check every ten seconds to see if you have received any instant messages and to announce if you have received one. The flash occurs because the frame holding the icon is reloading to check for messages; however if the icon is blinking at a fast pace then it is informing you that you have received an instant message.
