Why does the SWE application request so much information?
Most of the information requested assists SWE in understanding the applicants qualifications so that they may be assigned the highest membership grade possible. SWE set a standard to become the resource on women in engineering. We updated our database to allow us to gather related statistical data of this kind. The statistical data is optional and is indicated as such. Applicants do need to complete all other requested information as it applies. Why would I want to join SWE? Members join and remain in SWE for a lot of different reasons. It’s a great way to network with other engineers, both nationally and locally; pursue personal growth opportunities; develop leadership skills; and participate in the community by interfacing with local schools, colleges, and other organizations as role models, mentors, and counselors. Many come because you have fun and make great friends. Everyone has reasons that keep them coming back!
