Why does the Stylus 710 limit the size (resolution) of images shot in certain Bright Capture-enabled shooting modes?

0

The Stylus 710 restricts the maximum resolution of images captured in the Scene mode’s Available Light and Candle scenes as well as those shot in the high-speed Sequential Shooting mode. This is a noise-reduction strategy. The noise that can sometimes be seen on images captured in low light is often related to the high number of pixels on the image sensor. Pixels generate heat as they collect light information, and this heat can cause unwanted electronic charges, or “noise”, to creep into the digital image file. The more pixels there are on the image sensor, the more heat and the more potential for noise. Bright Capture condenses the light information into a smaller area of the image. As a result, the overall number of pixels, or resolution, needed to capture the image in low light is reduced. The resulting image with Bright Capture will be bright, clear, and less susceptible to the effects of noise.
