It may mean that your ionization line is dirty or needs replacing. Carefully remove the ionization line and inspect it. If the ionization line curls up, its time to replace it. To clean your ionization line, carefully remove it from the unit and set it on a table on top of a paper towel. Very gently wipe the ionization line with another paper towel and rubbing alcohol in one direction until you start to see the original gold color of the wire. Once you return the ionization line back into the unit, it may continue to crackle or hiss for a little while, but it will eventually go away.
