Why does the screen turn dark sometimes during the broadcast?

This is my XBOX 360’s fail safe so the graphics won’t bleed into the HDTV I am using. This means that I haven’t touched the controller in a while and I’ve become “idle.” Once I touch the controller, it goes back to normal again.
