Why does the same police department have different names in different years?
In a few rare instances, the name used by the Pennsylvania State Police to describe the same police department has changed from one year to the next. The state police have not released the annual crime data with a consistent departmental identification number that would allow for correction of these name changes. Inconsistent names have been corrected for departments in Lehigh and Northampton counties, but are presented here as is for the rest of the state.
