Why does the Salton Sea need to be restored?
A. The Salton Sea is an important community asset to the Coachella and Imperial Valleys, and southern California; providing recreational opportunities, agricultural benefits and unparalleled wildlife. Without a revitalization plan, decreased water flow will create an environmental and economic disaster, as the sea dries up, exposing sea bottom sediments to the wind, worsening our air quality (and resulting respiratory ailments) and coating our farmland with dust. The salinity and nutrients will continue to concentrate in the remaining water, killing off the fish that live there and the birds that feed off them.
