Why does the Sabine River Authority no longer patrol Lake Tawakoni by boat?
Question In the later 1960s and early 1970s the Sabine River Authority patroled Lake Tawakoni on a regular basis. In the past 15 years we havent seen any of your boats out. I live on Lake Tawakoni. Answer The SRA has gotten out of the lake patrol business over the past two decades primarily as a result of the increased law enforcement presence provided by the Texas Parks & Wildlife Dept. game wardens (two each assigned to Hunt and Van Zandt Counties) and the higher level of search and rescue assistance being provided by county sheriff’s departments and local volunteer fire department units around Lake Tawakoni. The SRA routinely collects water quality data on Lake Tawakoni and the surrounding waterways. The SRA also investigates complaints and reports about water quality problems. Reports about water quality problems should be directed to the Upper Basin Field Office (903) 878-2420.
