Why does the product package say that: “Eat no more than 3 grams of plant stanols per day”?
This is a current regulatory restriction in EU member states. Previously it was thought that the cholesterol lowering effect of plant stanol ester levels off at intake over 3g of plant stanols per day. Recent clinical studies however show that further LDL cholesterol reduction can be anticipated with safe higher daily intakes up to 9g plant stanols per day.
