Why does the operating system sometimes not recognise the USB device correctly?

0

This is most commonly observed when the USB modem was not properly shut down prior to removal. If the USB device is not recognised properly by the operating system ( a symptom of this is that the Vodafone Mobile Broadband software does not automatically start when the USB device is attached), then the problem is usually associated with the USB port last used being disabled due to incorrect USB device removal. To reset the USB port to recognise the USB device correctly, Click on the Start button, select Control Panel then select system. Select the hardware tab, click on the Device Manager button. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and select Universal Serial Bus Controllers. If the Modem is present on the list, but the device is disabled, select enable, and the device should now be recognised properly by the operating system. Alternatively you can try a different USB port.
