Why does The Naughties Club have such a “naughty” name?
As introduced in “Our Goal” of The Naughties Club, the first ten years of the 21st century are commonly referred to as “the Naughties”. The term suggests innocence and creative subversion. Being one of “the Naughties” is to extend all existing boundaries in an innovative and playful way. Some of our members have expressed concern that the term “naughties” may mislead Internet users to sites containing pornography. Alternative terms such as the “noughties” have also been suggested. Indeed, one is likely to find that currently on the Internet, the number of sites that use the term “naughties” and that of those using “noughties” are about equal. We continue to use the term “naughties” because we trust that our members have sound judgments and unbiased worldviews. The existence of pornographic sites is a regrettable fact. However, we can do our best to eliminate the negative impact of this fact on our future generations, by maintaining a healthy mindset and encouraging our children to tell
