Why does the met office bother to give a 5 day forecast on their site?

Forecasting is a very complicated process and many changes happen as time passes and a forecast can change dramatically. I work at a weather office and our forecasts for the next day are about 90% accurate while for the last day of the 5 day it is about 70% accurate. People hardly remember the times we are right…and they never forget when we are wrong.

Quite right, a 5-day forecast can only ever be “settled” or “likely to be variable”, and to try to prophesy for Friday on Monday is the work of Madame Zora and her tea-leaves!
