Why does the Long Island Rail Road change its timetables?
The LIRR normally changes its timetables at least twice per year. Once in the Spring when additional trains are added for increased service to the East End of Long Island for the summer season and once in the Fall, after the summer season. Occasionally, special timetables are issued to accommodate schedule changes due to special track work programs sometimes including alternate bus service. These usually occur on weekends or during mid day weekday hours. Start and end dates are displayed on the cover of each branch timetable. Up-to-date train information is available in schedules.
