Why does the Isenberg Internship Program require me to get credit if I am not getting paid hourly and am receiving a stipend?
It’s all about liability. If you are working for an employer and are being paid hourly, you are covered by the employer’s workman’s compensation insurance in case of damage done to company property. However, if you are NOT being paid hourly, and you have an accident and damage equipment or company property, you are not covered. If you are registered for credit, you would be covered by the University in case of an accident. Other important factors to consider: If you are registered for credits through the University, then your internship has been approved by the Isenberg Internship Program and considered part of a University program.
