Why does the Irish Government insist on promoting the Irish Language?

Seriously, most Irish don’t give a snap of their fingers about Gaelic. Just a small minority speaks it, but they should keep it, it is just part of their identity. Only a few intelectuals are keen on trying to stage a revival of the Irish language. The Irish language is a tool used to prevent foreigners from getting some jobs, you have to be good at it if you want to get into the civil service or work for the Government. It is also a way to keep their specificity, if it wasn’t the Galic culture what would set appart an Irish from an English or an American.

The Irish are a very patriotic network of people, similar to the Welsh. I think they want to make sure they have their differences to the UK and it probably pisses some of them off that they speak our language when they want to be so indipendant.
