Why does the Heinz Nurture™ product line not include a low iron infant formula?
Iron plays an important role in the development of a baby’s brain. Lack of iron can significantly affect a baby’s ability to learn later in life. Iron is also required by the body to make hemoglobin, which supplies oxygen – through the blood – to every cell of the body. Constipation is rarely caused by excess iron. The Canadian Paediatric Society and Dieticians of Canada recommend iron fortified infant formula as the best alternative to breast milk. Before using a formula that is not fortified with 100% of the daily recommended intake for infants, it is very important for parents to check with their healthcare professional.
