Why does the Foxit Reader print so slowly?
There is a long story behind that. Once upon a time, there were two printer languages called Postscript and PCL, the former invented by Adobe, the latter by HP. All Windows machines used to have printers set up for both languages. For example, the hp4 printer would be listed twice, once as hp4 (ps) and hp4 (pcl). Then along came the Adobe Reader and chaos ensued. It turns out that even though Adobe created both the Reader and the Postscript language, often times when the Reader tried to print to a Postscript printer, the printer would crash. Trying to track down which computer was sending the offending print job wasted a lot of time and effort that could be better spend elsewhere. So all Postscript drivers were removed, leaving only the PCL ones.
