Why does the Fire District pay firefighters over $200,000 a year?
To suggest that fire staff earn $200,000 as their base salary is just flat wrong. Average line fire personnel (firefighter to chief) salaries are $106,500. Benefits add another 33%, for a total of $141,600. Firefighters have critical jobs that save lives. Attracting and keeping good people in these positions is not a waste of money. The Moraga-Orinda Fire District pays competitive salaries that are in line with fire agencies throughout the area.
