Why does the Federation give too much (too little) money to overseas needs (JFS, Shalom School, Hillel)?
The Federation conducts a careful process to determine the disposition of the funds raised in our Annual Community Campaign. Each entity is competing for a limited pot. Total allocations are based on how much money the campaign actually raises. The Federation Board considers presentations by each agency. This past year we allocated $130,000 to Israel & overseas needs, $84,000 to Shalom School, $83,000 to Jewish Family Service, and $78,000 to the Hillels at Davis and Sacramento.
