the smell is probably from the organic material in the drain decomposing, stuff like soap can stink horribly when left to “ferment”, mix bleach and water, 1 cup each, pour it in, let it set for a couple hours, flush it out with a pail of clean water, if it still smells repeat it. after it no longer smells after rinsing out, mix about 1/4 cup bleach with a cup of water and leave it in. this should be enough chlorine to keep it from smelling but not enough to make it smell like a Clorox factory is in your basement.
