Why does the Denison ISD need a bond election?
Our oldest school (Golden Rule Elementary) was built in 1922. Our newest school (Mayes Elementary) was built in 1967. Throughout our district, our buildings average 48 years of age. It is now necessary for our school roofs, boilers, air conditioners, gymnasium floors, parking areas, auditorium acoustics and sound, and buildings to be renovated and refurbished. We need additional classrooms due to increased enrollments and programs, as well as band and theater arts storage and special needs classrooms. Technology is needed to meet the challenges of the computer generation, telecommunications, multi-media dissemination, distance learning, and the technology highways. Multi-purpose buildings are needed for elementary physical education and other activities. Athletic dressing areas need to be expanded to meet overcrowded conditions due to increased participation and added sports.
