Why does the Comprehensive Plan need to be updated?
The current Comprehensive Plan was adopted in 1997. Since that time, there have been approximately 15 small area studies that have amended either the land use or transportation elements of the plan. Since 1997, our population has increased by 40%, College Station has increased in size by over 4000 acres, and there have been over 5,000 new single family homes built! The portion of the population made up of students is decreasing. In 1990 60% of College Station’s population was students. Today, students make up approximately 50%. The needs of the community are changing.
