The Breastbottle nurser’s patented three-port nipple enables the user to increase flow incrementally as a baby matures. At first, only one port is open. Breast sucking is important for a baby s proper oral development which may later affect appearance, speech and dental formation. As the infant matures, natural breastmilk flow typically increases to meet the child s growing nutritional needs. To simulate this naturally evolving flow rate, the Breastbottle nurser has two additional pre-formed ports, which are normally closed. To increase original flow, the user need only remove an additional nub(s) with a clean fingernail clipper, and the flow is permanently doubled or tripled. Because silicone nipples cannot be pierced the way latex nipples can, other systems require the purchase of multiple nipples with different flow rates as a baby develops.
