Why does the BR&CF offer a discount to members who pay dues in 6 and 12-month increments and not to monthly payers?
The amount of work involved in processing a dues payment is the same, regardless of whether the payment is $45 or $459. Members who pay their dues annually or semi-annually save the Organization administrative costs. Therefore, we can pass the savings on to them. Most costs related to the payment of dues are incurred in the processing of payroll deduction. Many railroads charge us a fee for providing this service. Additionally, our members who are having their dues automatically deducted often forget to notify us of their new addresses when they move. Consequently, we lose track of those members because we don’t have direct contact with them. This necessitates research regarding address changes and involves returned mail and additional postage when we attempt to correspond with them.
