Why does the Bible mention Jesus family tree when Joseph wasn His father?
Considering their contradictory geneologies there is a problem if you accept them as accurate. Both are clearly of Joseph. If one was supposed to be Mary, then that simply trades one error for another. However, the fact is the messiah was supposed to in the house of David. So he has to be a direct descendant from the line of kings, which happens to be passed only through male heir. So…there’s a problem again. The adopted story works, but that’s not really what the prophecy was. It makes perfect sense when you realize it is one of the many tacked on details to try to make him fit the prophecy. The only more obvious one is the Nativity.
