Why does the bible contradict itself?

0

Of course it contradicts itself. For instance in Mat 1:6 it says that Jacob was Joseph’s father. In Luke 3:23 it says that Heli was Joseph’s father. Contradiction. And there are tons of others. Contradictions exist because it wasn’t written to be a history or science book. It was written to give us the message of Jesus Christ: love one another. Who His foster-grandfather was isn’t at all important, and was documented incorrectly either by Matthew or Luke or maybe both. But just because there are contradictions in the details of the Bible doesn’t mean that it can’t contain God’s truth. The Bible is God’s truth. It’s just not a genealogy or history lesson. People who say there are no contradictions in the Bible have never read it, and are probably paroting something they heard from somebody else who has never read it either. People who say that because there are contradictions, it can’t contain some ultimate truths are making untenable assumptions about both the Bible and Christianity.
