Why does the banker win more often in Baccarat?
Baccarat is a very simple game. Each side gets two cards and the “player” has an opportunity to draw an extra card. After that, the “banker” has the opportunity to draw an extra card (these rules are a bit simplified for the purpose of this explanation). I assume that many many years ago, the game was dealt face down and the player didn’t know what the banker held and vice versa. After a while, a basic strategy emerged and instead of asking what the player wanted to do, they simply played the game face up and hit each hand according to this basic strategy. The player’s strategy is simple. If he has a total of 5 or less, he hits. The banker’s strategy is more complex, taking in to account whether the player hit and what card he received.
