Why does the average American believe every conspiracy theory that Hollywood likes to perpetuate.?

I consider myself an “average American” and I rarely believe any of that stuff.

History shows us that over time, the government has lied to the people. Americans have been fed the notion that they are better than any other nation so things like assignation conspiracies, coups or inside power shake ups, rigged elections, and various scandals could never happen here. It is interesting that they can happen all over the world, but not here. Government administrations and political parties are maters at “spinning” stories. Politicians read Machiavelli and use it as a guide for achieving and then holding power. There are plenty of reasons for the lack of credibility in government in the US. This does not excuse the many bizarre conspiracy theories that bounce around though.

Until I see the scientific studies and results dealing with the assumption this question is based on regarding the average American I must deem this question nonsensical and unanswerable.
