Why does the age-sex index for Scotland show less variation for age than elsewhere in the UK?

A Scottish age-sex consultation weights are based on data from Continuous Morbidity Recording (CMR) practices. Approximately 60 practices have been used in this analysis. This information better informs variations in practice workload in Scotland than the GPRD information used for the UK formula where only 12 Scottish practices’ data were used. The weightings are a statistical tool used to reflect relative need and CMR age-sex weights are not directly comparable to the England/Wales/Northern Ireland age-sex weights. Also, the Scottish weights are for numbers of consultation only whereas the other UK weights also take into account consultation length.
