Why does the African-American community tend to be more homophobic than others?
There is no community. Black people are individuals just as gay people are. Some black churches disagree with gay marriage. Some white churches do too. Homophobia to me is an irrational fear or hate of gay people that is violent or suppressive in nature. Every struggle for equality starts at a point that the people affected find unacceptable. Than like minded people who are not directly affected become involved as the oppressed make their case and win converts to the cause. We dumb down the word homophobe and alienate potential allies when we over use the ultimate insult to describe someone who simply disagrees with us on any given issue. Free rational debate strengthens our cause as it weakens the cause of the true homophobes. Honest open minded people who disagree with us are simply ill-informed allies in waiting. Homophobia is not a color issue.
