Why does Swarthmore suggest that we borrow through the four banks listed on the Stafford Loan website?
Although students are welcome to borrow through any lender, many students look to us for guidance about the “best” lender. Given the many changes in the federal loan programs, we can no longer be certain of which Stafford lender will offer the best repayment terms. We do know, however, that as of the end of June, the four banks we have suggested in the past continue to withhold the smallest administrative fees-just 1%–and, given our long experience with them, offer great customer service, and maintain robust Stafford Loan websites. They are all members of the Keystone Best Loan program and are members of the AES-American Educational Services-network of banks. Students are welcome to borrow through any bank they like, however.
