Why does Statistics Canada conduct the Census of Agriculture?
The Census of Agriculture collects a wide range of data on the agriculture industry such as number of farms and farm operators, farm areas, business operating arrangements, land management practices, livestock and crop inventories, operating expenses and receipts, farm capital and farm machinery and equipment. These data provide a comprehensive picture of the agriculture industry across Canada every five years at the national, provincial and sub-provincial levels.
