Why does SPC use charts?
You can convey a lot of information very quickly using charts, where tables of numbers are more difficult to interpret. However, certain statistics, such as an overall change in cost or delivery performance, can be conveyed as a couple of numbers for the benefit of the top brass. Where this is the case, charts don’t have to be used. The important thing is the collection of reliable and meaningful data, and the presentation of them in ways that are easy to understand by the people that need to do something about them.
