Why does Simple Scripts install Joomla without modules?
Simple Scripts has an announcement that “as of 1.5.4 sample data will not be installed as a matter of course”. What this means is that not only are all the sample articles, categories etc. not included – which is fine – but that you end up with an installation without the 25 core modules. The modules are crucial for such fundamental things as login, banners and newsflashes etc. Without them Joomla loses a large part of its flexibility. As far as I can discover, in order to activate them you have to edit then run a sql script via PHPmyAdmin to install the sample data – all of which takes a lot longer than just doing a web browser install of Joomla from scratch. Anyone wanting to install Joomla via Simple Scripts either hasn’t got the technical expertise to run the sql script, or wants speedy installations and updates. So in fact, the SS Joomla 1.5.4 installation is useless to the very people who might want to use it. There is also a problem with the upgrade process: if you install 1.5.3
