Why does Sequer use MIDI as opposed to sound samples?
When we began developing Sequer, speed was an important goal….we wanted it to be as fast as the user’s thought process, so we chose MIDI sounds. Now, because most computers are so much more powerful than a few years ago, sound samples are competitive in terms of speed of operation. We are investigating switching to audio in our next version. When I use the Transposition tool, all the accidentals are changing. If you use intervals other than Perfect fourth, perfect fifth, and octave, you’ll see the accidentals change. To stay in the same key, you’ll have to adjust the notes manually, putting them back to the original accidentals. One of the reasons the IV and V chords (obtained by transposing all the notes up a perfect fourth and a perfect fifth) are used so much in pop music is that the accidentals are the same as in the root chord.
