Why does salt increase water density more than sugar?
Before answering this question, we must be familiar with the word ‘density’. Density is the mass per unit volume. Salt and sugar both can increase the density of water. However, the density of table salt is 2.16 g/cc and sucrose (common sugar) is about 1.59 g/cc. Therefore, adding salt increases the mass more quickly than adding the sugar, if you are measuring them by volume.
